Feverfew and passionflower
Feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase
Feverfew and passionflower are the first two herbs in the 50 mg SciatiEase proprietary blend. The label gives no single amounts, but blend order means at most 50 mg of feverfew and 25 mg of passionflower per 4 capsules. Feverfew was studied for migraine and may slow clotting; passionflower can cause drowsiness. Neither has been tested for sciatica.

What they are01
What are feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase?
Feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase are 4:1 plant extracts, listed first and second in the 50 mg proprietary blend. Feverfew comes from the flower of Tanacetum parthenium; passionflower is Passiflora incarnata.
Feverfew is a daisy-like plant long used for headaches. Passionflower is a climbing vine used as a calming herb.
A 4:1 extract usually means about 4 parts of dried plant went into 1 part of extract. The label does not say which plant compounds were measured.

Blend math02
How much feverfew and passionflower is in SciatiEase?
SciatiEase holds at most 50 mg of feverfew and at most 25 mg of passionflower per 4 capsules. Those are ceilings from the blend order, not printed amounts.
US rules let a proprietary blend show only its total weight, as long as its parts are listed from most to least by weight (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36). The blend weighs 50 mg and lists four herbs.
So feverfew can be any amount up to the full 50 mg. Passionflower, in second place, cannot be more than half, or 25 mg. If all four herbs were equal, each would be 12.5 mg.
| Herb | Place in blend | At most, 4 capsules | At most, 2 capsules | Even split, 4 capsules |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Feverfew | 1 of 4 | 50 mg | 25 mg | 12.5 mg |
| Passionflower | 2 of 4 | 25 mg | 12.5 mg | 12.5 mg |
Either way, these are small amounts. Feverfew and passionflower products sold on their own often contain far more per dose. The full panel is on the SciatiEase label page.
Research03
Does feverfew help nerve pain or sciatica?
Feverfew has not been shown to help nerve pain or sciatica; its research is about preventing migraine, and even there results are mixed. A 2020 review of 7 studies with 634 people could not settle the question (NCCIH, Feverfew).
Passionflower has a little research for anxiety and a hint that it may lengthen sleep. Conclusions are not firm (NCCIH, Passionflower). No study has tested either herb for leg pain.
Feverfew
Studied for: migraine prevention. Result: mixed. Other uses have little or no evidence (NCCIH, Feverfew).
Not studied for sciaticaPassionflower
Studied for: anxiety and sleep. Result: limited, not definite (NCCIH, Passionflower).
Not studied for nerve painBetter sleep can make pain easier to live with, so a calming herb has a plausible role. Plausible is not proven, and the dose in each capsule is small.
Bleeding04
Can the feverfew in SciatiEase affect bleeding or blood thinners?
Feverfew may slow blood clotting, so anyone on a blood thinner should ask a doctor before taking SciatiEase. The NIH also advises stopping feverfew at least 2 weeks before surgery (NCCIH, Feverfew).
Blood thinners include apixaban (Eliquis), warfarin and daily aspirin. The FDA warns that stacking products that thin the blood can raise the risk of internal bleeding (FDA, Mixing Medications and Supplements).
The feverfew in each serving is small, but nobody has published how small. That uncertainty is the reason to ask.
Keep taking every prescribed medicine exactly as directed. Stopping apixaban without your doctor raises stroke risk (MedlinePlus, Apixaban). Watch for unusual bruising, nosebleeds, bleeding gums or dark stools, and get help if they appear.
More pairings are covered in nerve supplements and medicines.

See packsDrowsiness05
Does the passionflower in SciatiEase cause drowsiness?
Passionflower can cause drowsiness, dizziness or confusion in some people. With anesthesia or surgical medicines, it might slow the nervous system too much (NCCIH, Passionflower).
The effect matters most if you already take something that makes you sleepy. Gabapentin, for example, can cause drowsiness and dizziness on its own (MedlinePlus, Gabapentin). Pregabalin, sleep aids and alcohol add to it too.
- Take your first doses at home, not before a drive
- Notice whether you feel slow or unsteady
- Tell your pharmacist about every sedating medicine
- Skip alcohol until you know how you react

Ask first06
Who should not take feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase?
Pregnant women should not take feverfew or passionflower, so SciatiEase is not a pregnancy product. Both herbs carry that advice from the NIH (NCCIH, Feverfew) (NCCIH, Passionflower).
People allergic to ragweed may react to feverfew, a plant in the same family (NCCIH, Feverfew). Anyone on a blood thinner or a sedating medicine should ask first.
Pregnant or nursing
Do not use without your doctor's advice.
Ragweed allergy
Feverfew may trigger a reaction.
Blood thinners
Feverfew may slow clotting.
Sedating medicines
Passionflower may add drowsiness.
Mild stomach upset and mouth soreness have also been reported with feverfew (NCCIH, Feverfew). The full list is on SciatiEase side effects.
The formula07
Why does SciatiEase include feverfew and passionflower?
The label does not say why, but both are traditional herbs for headaches and calm, and they lead the small herb blend. They play a minor part next to the 500 mg of PEA.
The next two herbs in the blend, Chinese skullcap and oat straw, share whatever weight is left. See every line in the SciatiEase ingredients list.
FAQ08
Feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase: questions
How much feverfew is in SciatiEase?
The label does not print it. Feverfew is first in a 50 mg blend, so it can be at most 50 mg per 4 capsules, or 25 mg in 2. An even split would be 12.5 mg. Blend rules only require the total weight (eCFR, 21 CFR 101.36).
What does 4:1 mean for the feverfew and passionflower in SciatiEase?
A 4:1 extract usually means about 4 parts of dried plant were concentrated into 1 part of extract. It describes strength, not purity. The label does not name a measured active compound, so the number cannot be compared closely with study products.
Does the feverfew in SciatiEase thin the blood?
It may slow clotting a little, according to the NIH (NCCIH, Feverfew). The amount in SciatiEase is small and unpublished. If you take a blood thinner such as apixaban, warfarin or aspirin, ask your doctor before starting.
Should I stop SciatiEase before surgery because of feverfew?
Ask your surgeon, and plan ahead. The NIH advises stopping feverfew at least 2 weeks before surgery, and passionflower may add to anesthesia effects (NCCIH, Feverfew) (NCCIH, Passionflower). Bring the bottle to your pre-surgery visit so the team sees the label.
Will the passionflower in SciatiEase make me sleepy?
It might. Passionflower can cause drowsiness, dizziness or confusion in some people (NCCIH, Passionflower). SciatiEase holds at most 25 mg per 4 capsules. Take early doses at home and see how you feel before driving.
Is SciatiEase safe if I am allergic to ragweed?
Ask your doctor first. Feverfew belongs to the same plant family as ragweed and may cause allergic reactions in sensitive people (NCCIH, Feverfew). Stop and get help if you notice itching, swelling or trouble breathing.
Is the feverfew in SciatiEase meant for sciatica or headaches?
Its research is on migraine, not sciatica. A 2020 review found mixed results for preventing migraine and little evidence for other uses (NCCIH, Feverfew). In SciatiEase it is a small part of a 50 mg blend.
