Do nerve pain supplements that work include PEA?
Nerve pain supplements that work are led, on the evidence, by PEA. A sciatica trial of 636 adults found lower pain at 600 mg a day than placebo. Alpha-lipoic acid and acetyl-L-carnitine have weaker results. No trial tested a retail capsule as a whole.

PEA01
What did trials find for PEA in nerve pain supplements that work?
Nerve pain supplements that work best on paper contain PEA, with one sciatica trial as the main support. It enrolled 636 adults at 300 or 600 mg a day for 3 weeks (Keppel Hesselink, J Pain Res 2015).
Pain fell from 7.1 to 2.1 on 600 mg, against 6.6 to 4.6 on placebo. A pooled review of 10 trials also found lower pain scores, with variable quality (Artukoglu et al., Pain Physician 2017).
The trial used micronized PEA. Most labels do not say which form they hold.
| Group | Pain before | Pain after |
|---|---|---|
| 600 mg PEA | 7.1 | 2.1 |
| Placebo | 6.6 | 4.6 |
The rest02
Do alpha-lipoic acid and carnitine help nerve pain?
Alpha-lipoic acid and carnitine have weaker support for nerve pain than PEA.
The 2024 Cochrane review of alpha-lipoic acid found probably little or no effect on symptoms at 6 months (Cochrane, Alpha-lipoic acid 2024). The ALCAR review rated its certainty very low (Cochrane, Acetyl-L-carnitine 2019).
A lower score is a feeling, not repaired nerves. Keep taking prescribed medicine.
Doses03
How do label doses compare with studied doses?
Label doses of PEA can match studies, while other nutrients often fall short. The bars below use the SciatiEase label at 4 and 2 capsules.

Where can you see a PEA capsule label?
The SciatiEase order page lists 500 mg of PEA per 4 capsules. That is a label fact, not a result.
Three bottles are $177 and six are $294, with a 180-day guarantee.

FAQ05
Questions about PEA and others
What is micronized PEA and does it matter?
Micronized PEA is ground into very small particles, and the sciatica trial used it. Labels rarely say which form they hold, so a matching milligram count may not mean matching results.
Is PEA an approved nerve pain medicine?
No. In the US it is sold as a dietary supplement, and the FDA does not approve supplements (FDA, Q&A on Dietary Supplements). Prescription options exist, so ask your doctor what suits your condition.
Why did the PEA trial run only 3 weeks?
Short trials are common in pain research. Three weeks says little about months of use or safety over time, which is one reason to treat results with care.
