Micronized PEA vs Regular PEA: Does the Form Matter?

Quick answer

Micronized PEA vs regular PEA comes down to particle size: micronized PEA is milled into much finer powder, and the main sciatica research used it. The SciatiEase label lists PEA at 500 mg per 4 capsules and does not say which form it is. Ask the order desk before assuming.

The terms01

What is the difference between micronized PEA vs regular PEA?

The difference between micronized PEA vs regular PEA is particle size. Micronized PEA is milled to a finer powder. Regular PEA is not.

Makers say finer particles mix and absorb better. Direct human comparisons are scarce, so treat that as a claim, not a fact.

Forms of PEA
FormMeaning
RegularPlain powder, no size reduction
MicronizedMilled to small particles
Ultra-micronizedMilled finer still

The research02

Which PEA form did the sciatica studies use?

The reanalysis of the 636-adult sciatica trial used micronized PEA at 600 mg a day. It reported a number needed to treat of 1.7 for pain (Cruccu et al., PEA sciatica 2019).

So the best sciatica numbers belong to a micronized form. Results for other forms cannot be assumed (Keppel Hesselink, J Pain Res 2015).

The gap

A supplement with an unnamed form may not match the trial.

The label03

Does the SciatiEase label say which PEA it uses?

The SciatiEase label does not say whether its PEA is micronized. It lists "Palmitoylethanolamide (PEA) 500 mg" inside the AlphaPalm Blend.

FAQ05

PEA form questions

Is ultra-micronized PEA stronger than micronized PEA?

Not necessarily. Finer milling changes particle size, not the dose on the label, and head-to-head human data are limited. A larger amount of PEA is a separate question from a finer one.

Does micronized PEA cost more than regular PEA?

Milling adds a step, so it can raise the cost. The SciatiEase label shows no form, so price alone cannot tell you which type is inside.

Where on a label would a PEA form appear?

It would usually sit beside the ingredient name, such as micronized PEA, or in a product description. The SciatiEase panel in our images shows only the name and the 500 mg amount.
