How to read a supplement facts panel from the top?

What does % Daily Value mean on a supplement label?
% Daily Value (DV) shows how one serving compares with a standard daily need. It is a yardstick, not a safe limit.

Why do some supplement panels show a DV over 1,000%?
Water-soluble vitamins have a small Daily Value, so a normal supplement dose becomes a large percent. Compare the amount with the upper limit, not the percent.
Is the serving size on a supplement the same as one capsule?
No. The maker picks the serving, often 2 to 4 capsules. Read the first line, then scale the amounts to how many capsules you take.
How do you convert mg to mcg on a supplement label?
Multiply milligrams by 1,000 to get micrograms, so 1 mg of vitamin B12 equals 1,000 mcg. Check the unit beside each number on the panel.
